Describe Your Last Weekend in Spanish

Weekend talk offers a familiar frame for varied past verbs. Mention one social activity, one responsibility, and one quiet moment without turning the answer into a list.

Learning objective

Describe a completed weekend with varied preterite verbs and connected details.

A strong weekend answer groups details into a small account rather than reciting activities. Open with an overall frame—El fin de semana pasado fue tranquilo—and then include one social moment, one responsibility, and one quieter action. Those categories create variety without requiring advanced vocabulary.

Use preterite forms for completed events: almorcé con amigos, limpié la casa, and descansé. These three actions supply a social moment, a responsibility, and quiet time while keeping the account concrete and easy to connect.

Connect the parts by relationship. El sábado trabajé por la mañana, pero por la tarde vi a unos amigos. El domingo hice la compra y después leí. Pero marks contrast, and después orders the Sunday actions. Frequency words are less useful when every event occurred once in the finished weekend.

End with a reaction or result: Me gustó porque tuve tiempo para todo. Gustó is singular because the weekend experience pleased the speaker; me identifies that speaker. This closing sentence turns the account into a personal response rather than leaving three events without a point.

Examples

  1. El sábado almorcé con mi familia y hablamos toda la tarde.

On Saturday I had lunch with my family, and we talked all afternoon.

The social action develops into a connected shared event.

  2. También limpié la cocina porque recibí visitas el domingo.

I also cleaned the kitchen because I had visitors on Sunday.

Porque gives the responsibility a reason.

  3. Después del almuerzo, caminé junto al río y descansé en casa.

After lunch, I walked beside the river and rested at home.

The phrase moves from an outdoor activity to quiet time.

  4. Fue un fin de semana ocupado, pero lo disfruté.

It was a busy weekend, but I enjoyed it.

The final evaluation balances the workload with a positive result.

Common mistake

Instead of
Último fin de semana yo hago compras, veo amigos y soy relajado.
Try
El fin de semana pasado hice la compra, vi a unos amigos y descansé.

El fin de semana pasado is the natural finished frame. Hice and vi are irregular preterites, and descansé expresses the completed action of resting. Soy relajado would describe a characteristic such as being easy-going, not report that the speaker rested.

Practice

Try it yourself

Turn these notes into a connected weekend answer: Saturday—lunch with cousin, move a table together; Sunday—cook lunch, read for an hour; reaction—tiring but happy. Use porque, después, or pero.
