Build an Extended Answer from a Simple Question
A one-word answer can grow through a reason, example, contrast, and return question. Use that flexible expansion pattern to sustain dialogue without delivering an artificial monologue.

An extended answer develops one main point through a reason, relevant example, optional contrast, and return question. It is flexible rather than formulaic: use only the support the conversation needs, then invite the other person back before the response becomes a speech.
Empieza con una respuesta reconocible: prefiero trabajar por la mañana. Añade porque para justificarla y un ejemplo breve que muestre la razón. Si existe una excepción útil, aunque o en cambio puede matizar la preferencia sin borrar el punto principal.
Relevance controls length. A story about last Tuesday is useful only if its detail explains the preference. Name the setting, one action, and the result; omit unrelated names or chronology. The listener should still remember the original question.
La pregunta de retorno no debe cambiar de tema al azar. ¿Y tú, cuándo trabajas mejor? ofrece al interlocutor la misma clase de respuesta y mantiene el intercambio equilibrado. Una pausa antes de la pregunta también señala que has cedido el turno.
Avoid stacking connectors mechanically. A natural answer might use a point, reason, example, and return question without contrast. Add contrast only when it qualifies the claim, such as aunque para tareas creativas a veces prefiero la tarde.
Practica ampliando una respuesta de una palabra en capas. Comprueba que cada capa responda a la pregunta inicial y que la última frase abra espacio. Después recorta cualquier dato que no cambie la comprensión del punto.

Common mistake

- Answer with a long chronological story and never state a position or ask the listener anything.
- Try
- State the point, give one relevant reason and example, qualify it if needed, and return the turn with a related question.
An extended answer is organised support, not maximum length. The main point remains visible and the other participant receives a clear way back into the conversation.
