Concede a Point with Aunque

Concession acknowledges information that might have suggested a different outcome. Position aunque before or after the main point, then preserve the stance-based mood distinction within the clause.

Learning objective

Acknowledge a counterpoint with aunque while keeping the main claim clear.

A concession acknowledges a counterpoint or obstacle that might have led listeners to expect a different result. Aunque introduces that obstacle while the main clause preserves the speaker's central claim: Aunque cuesta más, esta opción dura más.

Mood continues to express stance inside a concessive clause. Aunque queda lejos asserts the distance; aunque quede lejos can entertain that possibility or make the exact distance irrelevant. Concession itself does not mechanically select indicative or subjunctive.

Conceding a valid point can make disagreement more precise. Aunque entiendo la preocupación por el coste acknowledges that concern before the speaker presents counterevidence: los datos muestran un ahorro. The listener can then see exactly what remains disputed.

Although the budget is limited, we can improve the entrance.

The accepted financial obstacle does not cancel the narrower feasible improvement.

We can improve the entrance even if the budget is limited.

The main claim comes first, while sea treats the exact constraint as open or non-decisive.

Although I acknowledge that we made mistakes, I don't accept that the whole plan was useless.

The speaker concedes a completed fact before rejecting an excessive present assessment of the plan.

The route is worthwhile, although it requires more preparation.

A relevant cost follows the recommendation and qualifies it without overturning it.

Common mistake

Instead of

The original creates a contradiction without identifying what is conceded. The correction acknowledges the shared objective, rejects a specific method, and supplies a relevant reason, so the concessive logic becomes traceable.

Practice

Try it yourself

Write a four-sentence response to a costly training proposal. State your position, concede one verified benefit with indicative, entertain one possible obstacle with subjunctive, and conclude with a narrower alternative supported by a reason.
